Multi-Storey Car Park Planned for Port Sultan Qaboos Waterfront in Muscat

Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran) is moving forward with preparations for a new multi-storey parking facility at the Port Sultan Qaboos Waterfront in Muttrah, Muscat.

The company has invited qualified contractors to bid for enabling and preparatory works associated with the planned car park. The tender covers several elements needed to ready the location for construction, including clearing and preparing the site, removing existing structures, installing temporary parking and fencing, developing pedestrian walkways and landscaping, and introducing directional signage.

The preparatory works are also intended to maintain access to the area while the wider construction project progresses. Contractors have until 15 September 2026 to submit their bids.

The parking project forms part of a broader programme of improvements planned for Muttrah Waterfront, an important tourism and commercial destination in Oman.

Several other developments are progressing in the area, including the Muttrah Cable Car project. The planned route will run from the fish market to Al Khabou Park and is expected to become the longest cable car route over the sea in the Middle East, with three stations along its route.

Plans for the waterfront also include improvements to the appearance of Muttrah Souq, redevelopment of Port Sultan Qaboos, and the creation of Muttrah Square. The latter is expected to feature a pedestrian bridge providing views across the waterfront and nearby landmarks.

Additional parking capacity, together with new opportunities for cafés, restaurants and other businesses, is also being incorporated into the wider redevelopment programme. The initiatives are aimed at strengthening Muttrah as a destination for residents and visitors while supporting tourism, commercial activity and improved connectivity.
