Nedap: Wireless Parking With Your Bank Card

Imagine this: you drive into the parking lot of your bank branch, scan your regular bank card, and the barrier opens. No ticket, no hassle. This is now a reality for BNP Paribas Fortis customers, thanks to an innovative application of Nedap’s NVITE reader. The solution was implemented in collaboration with system integrator Seris Technology.

A modern parking management system for a modern bank

BNP Paribas Fortis has several bank branch locations in Belgium, some of which offer dedicated parking for customers. Hundreds of customers enter and exit these locations daily, so providing smooth and simple access is crucial. At the same time, the bank wanted to limit access to its own customers by using the contactless technology in recently updated bank cards. That’s where the opportunity for innovation came in.

Challenge: access without extra cards or keys

How can access control be made even easier for all customers? By using something they already carry: their own BNP Paribas Fortis bank card. The challenge was clear: securely grant customers access to parking with their existing debit bank card (VISA or Mastercard), without the need for additional access badges, tickets, or keys.

The solution: NVITE with smart firmware for bank cards

Nedap’s NVITE reader is the go-to solution for multi-technology access, and with custom-made firmware, it’s become even smarter. This firmware securely and wirelessly reads the card number of any bank card and links it to the correct access rights. The result is a unique combination of proven technology and new intelligence, perfect for this project.

System integrator Seris Technology implemented the solution in close collaboration with the FAC Physical Security team at BNP Paribas Fortis. The firmware is available for Nedap Certified Partners and can easily be rolled out on existing NVITE readers.
