Oyster was delivered to London by the TranSys consortium, led by Cubic and EDS (Electronic Data Systems). In Carroll’s new role she will pursue business opportunities for expanding the company’s smart-card based technology and fare collection systems expertise to add new products and services offerings including parking, tolls, taxis, event ticketing, concessions, retail and security access control.

Carroll will have global responsibility for identifying and evaluating new smart card applications that can evolve from Cubic’s core transportation-related customer base including market analysis, proposal development, and participation in industry meetings and conferences through speaking opportunities and committee memberships.

“As marketing director for the Oyster Card, Nicole brings the best of real-world application and experience in card services to Cubic,” said Richard Johnson, president and chief executive officer of Cubic Transportation Systems, Inc. “Combined with Cubic’s leadership in smart card-based technology, her contribution to our team gives us the momentum to actively develop new solutions that will help our transport customers link their patrons to new products and services outside the transit system, thereby creating more convenience, easier access and perceived value of public transportation.”

Carroll was responsible for all marketing activities on the Oyster Card program, including brand development, strategy, marketing communications, public relations and business development for distribution channels and co-brand partnerships.

Her previous experience placed her in senior roles at leading global companies such as Citigroup, Visa and SearsCard where she developed extensive knowledge of the consumer and banking markets in the United States and Europe and was instrumental in launching several card programs, including the highly successful co-branded Mall/VIP card which was voted the number one new co-brand of 1997 by Kiplinger, the world’s best-known personal finance and business management publisher.

She received her bachelor of arts in international economics and international relations from Georgetown University where she was elected student government treasurer and served as the alumni-giving coordinator.
