Smarter Parking for the North

Five local authorities in the north of England are installing new Parkeon Strada payment terminals to bring the benefits of smarter parking technology to their residents.

Councils covering Hull, Bradford and Sheffield cities and the districts of Calderdale and Bassetlaw have ordered 168 of the solar powered terminals to improve local parking management and to enhance the service provided to motorists on-and-off street.

Hull has ordered 43 Strada terminals to replace the oldest machines in the city. Security had become an issue but Parkeon addressed this with the Strada's Attack Detection System and reinforced cash collection area.

Bassetlaw has purchased 26 terminals to replace older machines in 15 surface car parks and to take advantage of the centralised Parkfolio management system.

In Calderdale, 53 Strada terminals are operating in new parking areas within the borough. The council has an ongoing relationship with Parkeon and the new machines have been installed in the Skircoat area, where the council is now able to offer all day parking for just £2.

The City of Bradford has ordered a total of 20 solar powered, coin only terminals in three batches over the last five months.

In addition, older machines are being replaced gradually by Sheffield City Council, with the installation of 23 Strada terminals in car parks in December 2012 and a further 26 in November 2013 for use on-street in the city centre; all were purchased as part of an existing framework agreement.

Tom Porteous, Parkeon's Northern Regional Sales Manager commented: "The Parkeon Strada terminals are proving to be very popular with local authorities in the north, due to their proven reliability and particularly when operated in conjunction with the Parkfolio central management system. The eco-credentials of the terminals, with their solar power and 95% recyclable components, ensure that local authorities meet their environmental commitments while at the same time implementing their parking strategies more effectively."
