Parking fees at Oakland airport to rise
Passenger numbers are going up at Oakland International Airport, and so are rates at the parking lots surrounding it.
In 2004, more than 14 million passengers used the airport -- up 4 percent from the previous year and the seventh year of growth.
Steven Grossman said he expects passenger travel to inch up again to about 14.5 million this year. The airport currently oversees 200 flights a day from 12 domestic and international carriers to 39 nonstop destinations, officials said.
The passenger gains were seen as three carriers launched new nonstop service in 2004 and many carriers increased the frequency of flights.
On the ground, meanwhile, parking rates are going up beginning Tuesday at all airport parking lots.
If you're using an economy lot, expect to pay $19 an hour, up from $17. Those daily lots (A & B) will cost $22 per hour, up from $20; and hourly $32, up from $27.
If you opt for valet parking, you'll be shelling out $39 an hour, up from $35.
The rate increases reflect an increase in the city of Oakland's new parking tax rate, which went into effect on Jan. 1, airport spokeswoman Rosemary Barnes said.
