Parking in Perth or Aberdeen? No coins required!
Since 13 June, parkers in Perth or Aberdeen can pay for their parking by phone rather than fumbling around for the correct loose change.
RingGo, the specialist pay-by-phone parking system has been introduced to multi-storey car parks in College Street, Aberdeen and Kinnoull Street, Perth. From today people using these car parks can pay using their mobile phone and a credit or debit card, rather than using cash. The new systems are being operated by a partnership between Perth-based, Town and City Parking and Cobalt Telephone Technologies which owns RingGo.
The advantages of RingGo are that motorists do not need to ensure they have the right coins, they do not even have to leave the comfort of their cars - especially useful when it's cold, raining or at night - and there are no tickets involved. Parking attendants check which vehicles are parked with RingGo by using an internet-enabled mobile handset.
To use the service, motorists simply call the RingGo number shown in the car park, register their vehicle and payment card details, and pay for their parking over the phone. First time users can follow the instructions provided on signs around the car park, about how to use RingGo.
Bernie Dickson, Managing Director for Town and City Parking, who manages the car parks says, "We know people parking in Aberdeen and Perth want flexibility and choice, so pay-by-phone services which offer an alternative to cash and a way to top up remotely are a great opportunity.
"RingGo offers car park users a wider choice, though some people prefer to use coins and they'll still be able to do this. Many motorists will like the convenience of paying by credit or debit card, and the fact they can top up their parking fee without returning to their car."
Being able to top up your parking fee from any location has proved a very popular aspect to the RingGo system when it has been introduced in other towns, according to Anne Snelson of RingGo.
"Now, if shoppers need longer browsing, they don't need to dash back to the car. So long as they've parked with RingGo, they can simply call up and stay, as long as they want," she says.
