PlugShare Surpasses 100,000 Users and 11,000 Charging Stations

Xatori Inc. today announced that PlugShare, the community-driven electric vehicle (EV) mobile and web application to find and share public and private EV charging stations, has further expanded its leadership in the electric vehicle market, growing its charging network to more than 100,000 users and 11,000 charging stations across North America – from an initial 500 stations when the service launched last year.

As the most widely downloaded electric vehicle app on the market, Xatori's PlugShare software has become a valuable source of information on EV behavior. Together with sister app GreenCharge, now free in the iTunes App Store, Xatori can offer unique insight into the nationwide adoption of EVs. To commemorate the milestone, Xatori for the first time is releasing data based on information from PlugShare and GreenCharge, including the top 10 EV-ready cities in the United States.

The leading cities based on public charging locations per 100,000 residents are:

  • 1. Portland
  • 2. Dallas
  • 3. Nashville
  • 4. SF Bay Area
  • 5. Seattle
  • 6. Orlando
  • 7. Austin
  • 8. Tucson
  • 9. Honolulu
  • 10. Washington D.C. Area

Xatori has also used its GreenCharge and PlugShare data to calculate other EV driver behaviors, including monthly EV statistics:

  • Average users drive 1050 miles and spend about $30 on charging per month
  • Drivers save approximately $75 in fuel costs and 360 lbs of CO2 emissions per month

Xatori continues to develop powerful new mobile software products and generate real-world information to support both EV manufacturers and enthusiasts. "PlugShare's success is largely thanks to the EV community at large, and we're committed to helping provide new products and services that help engage with them," said Xatori Founder and CEO Forrest North. "With the information we gather on charging stations and driving behaviors, we hope to inform the EV industry to continue to develop solutions that support and further the shift to electric vehicles."
