Schiphol Opens One of Europe's Largest Car Rental Locations

Schiphol

Official opening of the new Car Rental Service Center at Schiphol. The building, constructed at the site of the former P4 car park, covers an area of 40,000 m² and has space for around 2,500 vehicles. This makes it one of the largest car rental service centres in Europe.

The five major car rental companies at Schiphol – Avis Budget, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz and Sixt – are already operating at this new location.

Sustainable design

The building was designed by De Zwarte Hond (DZH) with sustainability as the main focus. It has a striking roof with 17,000 m² of solar panels. The steel construction of the building is modular and can be disassembled. As much bio-based material as possible was used for the offices and workplaces. The facades of the buildings under the roof are made from wood and a lot of water has been introduced throughout the site.

"The design project started with a joint quest to build a car rental service centre that would satisfy all functional needs as well as the sustainability goals. We are extremely proud of the result." Erik Roerdink, Architect DZH

New infrastructure

The building allows the car rental companies to further improve its services. For example, Hertz has its own workshop, three car washes and an extensive fleet of 1,100 electric vehicles at this location. Thanks to the new electric infrastructure, as many as 52 electric cars can be charged simultaneously. The approximately 7,000 solar panels on the site provide sustainably generated energy that is put to optimal use.

''Hertz is very pleased with the relocation to the new building, which allows us to continue growing and improving our services. We're proud of this development and look forward to the future in which we can serve our customers even better with sustainable and efficient solutions.' Eric Siewers, General Manager Benelux Hertz

"The new Car Rental Service Center provides car rental companies with a modern, sustainable and future-proof location. It contributes to Schiphol's ambition to make traffic to and from the airport more sustainable and supports the rental companies in their transition to electric vehicles. "Arthur Reijnhart, Chief Commercial Officer Schiphol Commercial
