NMBS Holding and SKIDATA Extend Their Cooperation

- Salzburg, Austria

SKIDATA is awarded the contract to equip Belgian train station car parks for the next five years to come. NMBS Holding and its subsidiary ICTRA announced the call for proposals in 2012. Hence, NMBS Holding and SKIDATA will continue their collaboration.

During the selection process for facilities of future train station car parks, NMBS Holding chose SKIDATA, a worldwide leading provider for access management systems. This extends the existing collaboration between the two, which has been going since 2008. For the upcoming project, which is going to comprise equipment for further train station car parks for the next five years, SKIDATA will function as the prime contractor. The company from Salzburg is commissioned to take care of all organizational and technical aspects of the project in cooperation with departments at NMBS Holding.

A Successful Cooperation Go Forward

NMBS Holding operates car parks at 37 of the most important Belgian train stations, as well as unguarded parking spaces. In 2008, NMBS Holding founded its branch B-Parking and commissioned it to manage their car parks. Between 2008 and 2012, 28 car parks at 21 train stations were equipped with SKIDATA products, resulting in 16.600 parking spaces. For 2013, about ten new installations are planned.

Instruments in the Line of Duty for Mobility

SKIDATA has provided services for NMBS Holding and B-Parking that enable centralized management in three control rooms. Thanks to sweb.Control, monitoring teams can manage all car parks remotely and, if necessary, intervene 24/7 in case a customer needs support. Thanks to the ICTRA network, all locations were equipped with cameras, which were integrated in the management platform sweb.Control.

In the new general agreement, SKIDATA was also commissioned to integrate the reading of MOBIB cards. These mobility passes enable access to car parks, riding trains and public transport in Brussels. This development will be introduced on location in April.

New SKIDATA Solution

One important innovation in this project is the virtualization of servers, which are assigned to different car parks. Facilitated by the NMBS Holding’s fiberglass network, SKIDATA created a private cloud, which enables a virtual integration of various car parks. This solution also enables the integration of any number of decentralized sales points, such as counters at several train stations, through which parking services are sold.
