The BPA are developing a Sector Skills Strategy for the entire Parking Industry

the Sector Skills Strategy is a strategy that details which qualifications need to be developed in order to improve the skill levels in the Parking Industry and provide an educational framework for parking professionals. It is planned that this framework will provide a career path for people that wish to progress from an operative level to a managerial level, and may well identify the need to create degree level qualifications.

In order to gather the right information to create the strategy a labour market survey was undertaken of the entire Parking Industry during Febraury 2006.

Why are the BPA developing such a strategy?

To help raise standards in the parking industry. The BPA believe that people are the primary asset of the industry, and that there is a direct link between improving the quality of training/education that people receive and the raising of standards in the sector.

The first step in this process is to identify which qualifications need to be created in order to provide a clear educational framework for people entering, and already working in, the industry. The strategy aims to do just this.

It is also hoped that by developing professional qualifications for the sector this will help to:
- reduce skill shortages and improve retention rates in the industry
- improve quality and public service performance
- improve the knowledge and skill base of the sector at all levels
