The Springfield Parking Authority names parking director

The Springfield Parking Authority has selected Harold G. King to fill its long-vacant position of executive director, slated to begin his duties by July 31.
"I am very happy to be selected," King said. "I am looking very much forward to this position." The parking director oversees public parking, including garages in the downtown area.

King, 51, said his resume reflects 22 years of experience in the parking industry, including on-street and off-street parking in lots and garages. His resume listed parking management experience in Wisconsin, Illinois and Kentucky. His most recent position was manager for on-street operations with Lanier Parking in Louisville, Ky. King left the job in August 2006. He said he moved back to Wisconsin and has done consulting work on parking matters for municipalities and companies. King previously worked as the parking enforcement supervisor for the city of Evanston, Ill., from 1998 through 2004.

King was offered the Springfield Parking Authority job last month and recently accepted the offer, board lawyer Archer B. Battista said. The hiring is subject to a final "due diligence background investigation," Battista said. King serves at the will of the five-member board and must reside in Springfield, Battista said.

Authority board member Thomas E. Lott said the board believes King is a good fit for executive director. "He is well qualified and has quite extensive experience in the parking industry," Lott said.

The board initially considered 17 applicants for executive director, then pared its list to six finalists. They were interviewed by the full board.
Two local finalists competed for the job: Maria T. Johnson, the financial and accounting analyst for the parking authority; and Christopher J. Moskal, who served as executive director of the authority from 1992 to 1998.
