Triflex Transforms Rooftop Parking at AH XL Healthcare Boulevard ZMC

Triflex has completed a project at the newly constructed Albert Heijn XL at the Zaans Medical Center (ZMC) complex. With rooftop parking, Albert Heijn required a perfect, hardwearing seal, and so Triflex chose to install their top quality Triflex CIS system.

The Challenge

The fact that there is a supermarket beneath the parking roof makes this project extra interesting for engineering and construction technology. Kees Kalis, Director of Triflex BV, also believes that: “A parking roof has many challenges due to its location alone. Consider, for example, the UV levels it must be able to withstand. The roof is full of sun every day, and in the summer it might be 60 or 70 degrees! The roof must, therefore, be resistant to such a heat shock. But it must also be able to handle the enormous water tax. That combination is always very interesting for us."

The Solution

Previously, the ZMC already had a parking garage, but at that time a limited coating system was chosen for the upper deck. Kees Kalis said, “But then we are talking about a deck and not a roof. Underneath a parking deck, there are normal parking layers, while underneath a parking roof there is always a space that is used. Now there is a medical facility with a large Albert Heijn in it, above which there is parking. ”  The Triflex CIS system has therefore been applied to the parking roof. "That is our system for parking roofs, where we also apply insulation and a fully driveable pressure layer," says Kees Kalis. “It is more than just a coating system. It is really the creation of an insulated roof seal. ” On top of the Triflex CIS system, there will be a reinforced coating system.

The Future

At the start of the project, Triflex, together with Mecanoo architects, sat down to come up with the right details and solutions for the parking garage. Together with Ahold and the contractor, Triflex guarantees the quality of the entire rooftop parking.
