Vattenfall InCharge and WirelessCar Move Seamless EV Charging Closer to Rollout
Vattenfall InCharge and WirelessCar are advancing a new automated charging service designed to make public EV charging simpler for drivers.
The companies have completed a pilot of Seamless Charging, a cloud-based service that enables charging, authentication, and payment to happen automatically when a vehicle is plugged in. The system removes the need for drivers to use separate charging cards or mobile apps during the charging process.
More than 700 EV drivers took part in the pilot across Sweden, the Netherlands, and Germany during spring 2026. The service currently supports Volvo and Tesla vehicles equipped with the necessary connected vehicle technology.
Once a driver completes a one-time registration, the system can identify the vehicle when it is connected to a charger. It then starts the charging session automatically and ends it when charging is complete. The service is designed to work across both AC and DC chargers, using established industry-standard protocols for secure vehicle and charging data exchange.
Vattenfall InCharge and WirelessCar developed the service to address one of the recurring challenges in public EV charging: the need for different apps, cards, and authentication steps depending on the charging network. By automating these steps, the companies aim to create a more convenient charging experience and support wider adoption of electric mobility.
Vattenfall InCharge operates more than 40,000 charging points, while WirelessCar provides the Seamless Charging service and connected vehicle expertise behind the project.
The service is currently available only at selected pilot locations. Vattenfall InCharge and WirelessCar plan to make Seamless Charging available across the InCharge network during autumn and winter 2026.
