Vialis Traffic wins Intertraffic Innovation Award
Amsterdam - At the opening ceremony of Intertraffic Amsterdam 2006, the winners of the Intertraffic Innovation Award were announced. For the first time group awards were presented in three different categories: Infrastructure & Safety, Parking, and Traffic Management.
The winner for the category Infrastructure & Safety is NMA Verkeerstechniek for the Mobile Automatic Roadblock System. For the category Parking, the winner is NEDAP for its SENSIT. Vialis Traffic with their product ICT in Accessibility is the winner in the category Traffic Management and was also chosen as overall winner for the Intertraffic Innovation Award. The awards were presented to the winners by Mrs Karla Peijs, the Dutch Minister of Transport, Public Works and Water Management. Intertraffic Amsterdam 2006 runs from 4-7 April in Amsterdam RAI.
The jury was rather impressed with the fact that no fewer than 95 companies entered the competition. The quality of the entrees was high.
The deputy chairman of the jury, Fred Wegman, commented as follows on the three products:
NMA Verkeerstechniek – Mobile Automatic Roadblock System
“The jury recognized the safety benefits of this method of enabling temporary road works barrier laying and recovery to be carried out entirely from within a contractor’s truck, reducing both the risk of accidents to site workers and the time during which road sections are closed. The company is working on full automation of the process, for delivery within a year or so.”
NEDAP – SENSIT
“NEDAP’s SENSIT wireless vehicle detector comes across as a practical device that can easily be installed in existing parking bays to guide motorists to available spaces. Its ease of installation also benefits operators, by reducing cabling; other potential applications include traffic management.”
Vialis Traffic – ICT in Accessibility
“In making this both the category and the overall winner, the jury acknowledged its systematic and comprehensive approach to providing a major metropolitan region with fully-sourced, real-time, public and private travel information through multi-channel distribution. As a contribution to the needs of the travelling public, the jury rated this a substantial advance – not least as the consortium that has developed it has maintained it following the end of purely public-sector funding in an innovative public-private partnership, and is actively working to transplant the concept elsewhere.”
During the opening ceremony, the IRF (International Road Federation) presented the Man of the Year Award to Jianfei Zhang, Director General, Department of Highway, Ministry of Communications (MOC), People’s Republic of China who accepted the award on behalf of the awardee His Excellency Zhang Chunxian, former Minister of the MOC, People’s Republic of China.
Also handed out was the Cuperus Prize, presented by the Traffic and Transport Engineering Department of the Dutch Royal Institute of Engineers (KIVI NIRIA). The winner is Frank Zuurbier.
