Wilbur Smith Associates Expands Yet Again In The Seattle Market

As the firm's engineering consulting services continue to grow in the Northwest, Wilbur Smith Associates is pleased to announce that James L. Zimmerman, Jr., P.E., has joined the firm as Senior Vice President and Group Manager of the Western Group based in the Seattle, WA office.
He will be responsible for managing the Western Group of Wilbur Smith Associates and meeting its 2005 net sales and revenue targets. He further will be responsible for leading the group to achieve substantial growth. Hollis A. Walker, P.E., Wilbur Smith Associates President is confident in saying, "with his strong leadership, management, sales, training, and mentoring skills, Zimmerman is well equipped to lead this growing group of the company in a very dynamic market."

Zimmerman is rejoining Wilbur Smith Associates after beginning his 38 year career in the consulting engineering business in the firm's Winston Salem, NC office. He comes to Wilbur Smith Associates from Kimley Horn & Associates, Inc. where he served as the Director of Transportation Services for the Southeast based in Raleigh, NC.

His technical background includes the expertise in the following practice areas: transportation planning, including long-range planning; parking analyses and design; environmental planning; traffic operations; and, transit planning. He has served in several professional roles with Wilbur Smith Associates, Rust, Kimley Horn, and ARCADIS. These roles have included Project Engineer, Project Manager, Project Director, Principal-in-Charge, Office Manager, Regional Manager, and Discipline Director for transportation and/or transportation services. While serving as Regional Manager for Kimley Horn, he was responsible for production and business development for existing and new start-up offices. At ARCADIS, he served as Regional Manager and Executive Vice President for a multi-state, multi-discipline operation with over 300 people and $25 million in net revenues.

Zimmerman is a graduate of North Carolina State University (BSCE and MSCE) with a major in Transportation and a minor in Public Administration. He is also a registered Professional Engineer in four states: Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. He is a member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers and the International Parking Institute.

Wilbur Smith Associates Continues Hiring Streak

Following a realignment of the firm's Northern and Southern Groups, Wilbur Smith Associates is pleased to announce that Douglas F. Smith, P.E., joined the firm as Senior Vice President and Group Manager for the Northern Group based in the Pittsburgh, PA office.

Smith comes to Wilbur Smith Associates from Michael Baker Corporation where he served as Vice President and Midwest Area Manager. He has over 19 years of experience in transportation and consulting engineering, with a technical background in structural engineering.

During his career at Skidmore Owings & Merrill, Dotter Engineering, Inc., American Bridge Company, and most recently at Michael Baker Corporation, Smith served in several professional roles. These roles have included project engineer and project management. He has also served as a Senior Administrative Engineer where he directed pricing strategies and overhead management; monitored the monthly performance of business units; and, participated in selecting, implementing, and customizing new financial/project accounting software.

Smith is a graduate of The Ohio State University (BSCE), Carnegie Mellon University (MSCE), and the University of Pittsburgh's Katz Graduate School of Business (MBA). He is a registered Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania.
