Worlds first Chip and PIN carwash gives pay-in-your-car convenience to drivers

CreditCalls Apollo Chip and PIN payment module is currently undergoing a rigorous trial inside a self-service carwash select and pay terminal at an unattended car wash centre on the north Wales coast.
creditcallafb1.jpgThe terminal, manufactured by UK-based PSD-Codax, enables drivers to pay using their Chip and PIN credit or debit card from the comfort of their car before driving into the automated carwash.

Although unattended credit card payment is not new, having been pioneered by CreditCall in 2000, any new machines in Europe have to be able to conduct an EMV (Chip and PIN) transaction.

PSD needed the fastest and easiest way to integrate a fully approved EMV card payment solution with their Codax payment terminals.

PSD Managing Director, Graham Round commented,
Having decided on the card reader and PIN pad for the project, we needed a means of authorising and processing the transactions, and it had to be wireless. The Apollo interfaces directly with our controller, the PIN pad and GPRS modem, and CreditCall process the transactions to the bank. Our clients, operators of car wash centres and petrol stations, are even able to see the transactions immediately using CreditCalls web-based management system. This new facility will provide pay-in-your-car at service stations and eliminate the need for staff to handle payments at car wash centres.
