Lighting: Safe for Customers and Energy Efficient

Does Q-Park have a specific lighting plan?

We seek to have light fittings run parallel with driving aisles, positioned above the parking spaces so they improve visibility and don't interfere with wayfinding signage. As lighting is the lowest technical installation, this lighting plan maximises our safety and efficiency. Other technical installations cannot cause shadows because they are above the light fittings.

What's so special about light fittings in a parking facility?

Our lighting equipment is subject to factors not always found in other types of buildings. Therefore, light fittings in our parking areas and staircases are required to be unaffected by vapour, water, dust or particulate matter. The light fittings also use stainless steel clips to prevent purposeful or accidental damage.

How to ensure customers are not ‘blinded by the light?’

Clearly, our customers should always experience bright, clear lighting throughout the facility. But they should never experience discomfort due to changing lighting conditions when entering or exiting. At entrances and exits Q-Park seeks to have transitional light to allow motorists time to adjust their eyes to differences in light levels.

Where possible, we vary the average lux (a measure of light level) at the vehicle entry and exit areas to be 300 lx during the day and 75 lx at night time.

Do you take the environment into account?

We establish an efficient ratio between lux levels, uniformity and energy saving. For example: the average lux level at floor level for parking spaces and driving aisles is 85 lx and for staircases, lift lobbies and toilets 100 lx. For parking equipment areas it is 200 lx and for payment areas 300 lx.

Our installations include light management systems to ensure that our parking facilities are environmentally-friendly. If part of the parking facility is not occupied or is in stand-by mode at night, light levels are lowered, switched to orientation mode, or switched off entirely.

Does switching off lights decrease safety?

We aim to have the lighting controlled by automatic switching or dimming systems, triggered either by daylight detection or movement sensors. Ensuring that Q-Park customers will always experience safe yet energy efficient lighting.
