Every winter, ski resorts face a parking frenzy as winter sports enthusiasts flock to their slopes. Parking is the guests’ last hurdle before they can enjoy the snow. Not so in Saas Fee any longer. The iconic indoor parking garage of the alpine town in Valais, Switzerland, now uses fisheye cameras upgraded with Parquery’s Artificial intelligence (AI) to guide their guests to a parking spot.

The Challenge: Guide the Car-Free Village’s Guests and Citizens Directly to a Vacant Spot in a 10-Story Car Park With Two Wings.

  • Business intelligence on parking: analytics for each parking spot

Saas-Fee is one of Switzerland’s most famous classic ski resorts and is very popular in summer, too. It is located on an alpine plateau at 1,800 meters, and surrounded by some of the most famous Swiss 4000m-high mountains.

The village itself is car-free so guests and citizens leave their vehicles in a 10-story indoor car park at the village entrance. This garage is unique: In winter, the parking lot’s spiraling access ramp becomes an arena for the UIAA Ice Climbing World Cup.

The resort attracts up to 9,000 visitors in the high season, so finding a parking spot can become a veritable challenge.

So far, parking attendants have alleviated the issue, but from this season on, Saas Fee relies on Parquery and their partner's clever ways for an accurate and affordable indoor parking guidance solution. Thus, Saas-Fee gives their visitors a smooth start to their mountain holiday.

The Solution: 49 Fisheye Cameras for Nearly 500 Parking Spots, 10 Guidance Panels, Parquery’s AI and Dashboard to Manage It All.

Parquery's partner clever ways, specialists in digital transformation and IoT architects, developed the tailor-made concept for parking guidance, and managed the project, and integrated Parquery's software solution. Thus, together, they developed a bespoke parking guidance system for Saas Fee.

"For this scenario, we were scouting for the most suitable and efficient solution. We found it in the camera-based software solution of Parquery and incorporated it into the design." - Charles Biaggi, CEO of clever ways

For this, Dahua’s fisheye cameras with a 180-degree field of view become multi-spot sensors when combined with Parquery’s Artificial Intelligence (AI). Each camera monitors about 12 parking spots in 4 rows.

With the camera-based Parquery approach, Saas Fee placed one camera instead of 12 individual sensors, allowing substantial cost savings.

Parquery’s Artificial intelligence (AI) analyzes the images and determines for each parking spot whether or not it is in use and for how long. The number of vacant spots is then displayed on the guidance panels that allow drivers to find a free parking spot at a glance.

Parquery’s Application Programming Interface (API) allows integrating real-time data, enforcement information, statistics, and analytics into any other software, app, or display.
