AVUTEC: The Practical Value of ANPR for Small Size Parking Projects

Efficient License Plate–Based Access Control in a Resort Environment

While license plate–based access control is often associated with large hubs and facilities requiring complex installations, it is equally well suited to smaller projects where simplicity and reliability are particularly important. A well-designed ANPR setup is quick to deploy and easy to manage regardless of project size, while remaining flexible for future scaling.

In many environments, the real value of ANPR lies not in a radical transformation, but in quietly eliminating small, recurring inefficiencies from daily operations. Vehicle access that functions reliably in the background—without adding steps, cards, or user actions—often delivers the greatest long-term impact.

This principle is clearly reflected in a practical, real-world implementation of ANPR-based vehicle access at Chogogo Dive & Beach Resort Bonaire.

Initial setup: the need for a smarter way to manage vehicle access

It’s early in the morning at the resort. Staff arrive at work by car. Guests come and go in their rental vehicles. And one barrier sits in the middle of it all.

Each arrival requires attention, manual intervention, and time — not because access is based on complex procedures, but because it happens repeatedly throughout the day. What seems like a minor action quickly turns into a recurring operational distraction.

To solve this, the goal was clear:

  • Automate entry for known license plates in a predictable and reliable way.
  • Have clear control over who is allowed in and when.
  • Exclude time-consuming steps or the need for physical access tokens.
  • Keep access rules and user management centralised within the Salto Space access control system.

The solution: seamless ANPR integration with Salto Space

For this upgrade, a Gatekeeper 410X ANPR camera was installed at the resort’s parking entrance and connected directly to the Salto control unit, next to the barrier.

Within Salto Space, license plates are represented by authorization codes assigned to users. These digital tokens allow the system to authenticate a vehicle when it arrives in front of the camera.

The integrated system works in the following way:

  1. The ANPR camera instantly reads the license plate as soon as a vehicle approaches.
  2. Once identified, the camera generates a Wiegand signal of the license plate in the corresponding Salto card format and sends it to the control panel.
  3. Entry is granted only for pre-registered vehicles with a valid access period, keeping parking available exclusively for its intended users.

Automated vehicle access that fits daily routines

With this setup in place, vehicle access no longer requires constant attention from the security staff or drivers. Authorized vehicles are recognized automatically, and the barrier opens without interruption.

Thanks to an ANPR system that is integration-ready out of the box, vehicle access control is centralized within the familiar Salto Space environment, with the camera operating as an extension of the existing system — not a separate tool to manage.

Using a single AVUTEC camera, the result is a practical improvement with immediate impact: fewer interruptions, less manual handling, and a more predictable flow of vehicles throughout the day.
