Park Your Truck: New Rest Area for Trucks Opened in Dreistern Near Bautzen

The new system in Dreistern brings the total number of rest areas in Saxony to 14, with further rest areas planned to be implemented in the coming years, according to Autobahn GmbH.

Truck drivers are people with some serious endurance, but in order to give 100% and be safe whilst on long journeys, quality rest is a necessity. Truck stops traditionally have not been known for their state-of-the-art facilities. And when available, rarely are there enough to meet the demand and need for frequent rest stops.

Truckers traveling along the Salzenforst motorway can rest easy, however, as a particularly modern and innovative truck rest area was inaugurated in Dreistern near Bautzen on Friday. The site operator, Park Your Truck GmbH from Dessau-Roßlau, announced that 69 parking spaces for trucks are available on the fenced site. Safe parking through fencing, lighting, and video surveillance as well as sanitary facilities, showers, and free WiFi ensure that long-distance drivers can rest comfortably. The snack bar can also be used and there is an additional space for 22 cars.

Mayor Dr. Robert Böhmer emphasized the importance of the new rest stop:

"This parking lot relieves the commercial area in Salzenforst and the city itself with a view to the trucks looking for a parking space."

The new system in Dreistern brings the total number of rest areas in Saxony to 14, with further rest areas planned to be implemented in the coming years, according to Autobahn GmbH. For Park Your Truck GmbH, the new truck parking lot is the first large rest area with sanitary facilities in Saxony. E-charging stations for trucks and cars will be installed there in the future, with a hydrogen filling station also being considered. The company has other areas in Saxony that they plan to upgrade using the same principle as the new parking lot in Dreistern.

About Park Your Truck

Park Your Truck GmbH (formerly known as UnserParkplatz GmbH) was founded in August 2013. Initially, it started as an online platform for sharing car parking spaces. After one year, they left this market and turned their attention to solving the truck parking problem.

Initially, they pragmatically acquired 1,000 truck parking spaces at gas stations and rest areas for reservation through our portal and simply tried to offer them to truck drivers. In 2015, with the technical implementation of the platform, they won Phase 1 of the Horizon 2020 EU competition, which had 8,400 participants from all over Europe. They utilized the EU-funded feasibility study as the largest primary market research in the field of truck parking, and the insights from it laid the foundation for their current new reservation platform, www.park-your-truck.com.
