Jumbo And PowerGo Commision First Fast Chargers in Nieuwegein

Another Exciting Partnership for PowerGo!

From today, Jumbo customers can charge their electric vehicles in Nieuwegein (the Netherlands).

From today, Jumbo customers can charge their electric vehicles in Nieuwegein (the Netherlands). The stores at ”De Walnootgaarde” and ”Galecop” are the first Jumbo stores to have their own fast-chargers. The electricity for the chargers is sustainably generated and comes entirely from Dutch solar energy. Soon, fast-chargers will also be installed at Jumbo stores in Heel (Dorpsstraat), Ter Apel (Nederveen Cappelstraat), Krimpen aan den IJssel (de Korf), and Deurne (Schelde).

In collaboration with PowerGo, Jumbo aims to provide a large part of its stores in the Netherlands and Belgium with charging points. Anrico Maat, Sales & Operations Director at Jumbo Supermarkets, commented on the initiative:

“An increasing number of our customers own electric vehicles. Now, while they do their groceries, they can easily and quickly charge their vehicles at one of our charging stations. We are working hard to reduce the CO2 emissions of our stores, and at the same time, we want to help our customers reduce their own emissions too.”

Ivo van Dam, Chief Technology Officer of PowerGo, said:

“PowerGo is installing fast chargers for Jumbo throughout the Netherlands and Belgium. Our charging points are powered by 100% sustainable solar energy from the Netherlands. We are taking big steps in the rollout of the fast-charging network and offering electric vehicle drivers a sustainable and user-friendly solution. We are proud that the first Jumbo locations are now in operation, and we look forward to further expanding our partnership with Jumbo.”

Charging time

With each charging session, Jumbo customers will receive 25 Jumbo Extra’s points. These points can be redeemed for free groceries, discounts on subscriptions, and day trips. The charging time is equivalent to the average time customers spend in the Jumbo store. As a result, in many cases, the vehicle will be fully charged by the time the groceries are done.
