Quercus Technologies will present a technical paper in the session "Sensor&Detection Systems -Urban Applications" at the ITS World Congress in Viena in October.

Eng. Jordi Picazo, responsible manager for Traffic Management & Enforcement in Europe & Middle East will participate as a speaker with the selected paper "A virtual-loop based approach to traffic management and road safety in cities"

Quercus Technologies –producer of license plate recognition systems- has built on their experience in artificial vision to create a new product range of virtual-loop based ITS detection devices for traffic management and enforcement. SmartLoop TS and BirdWatch Red Light are non-intrusive and all-in-one units that detect vehicle presence and red light running respectively.

Virtual-loop based technology is an above-ground solution which can contribute that cities and authorities benefit of a more flexible and sustainable way of managing traffic and enforcing laws. An insight into the workings of this technology will be given, with focus on its application on traffic management and enforcement. A series of applications of this non-invasive technology will be presented including:

  • Traffic management at intersections
  • Queue detection
  • Real time traffic information
  • Traffic statistics
  • Red light enforcement
  • Detection of stopped vehicles at crosswalks

The paper is included in the Technical Session: Sensor & Detection Systems - Urban Applications that will take place on Thursday 25 of October 2012.
