Since computer vision and machine learning have started to bring the vehicle-type identification function into number plate reading cameras, the range of applications that make use of this function has proliferated.

One of these is, of course, the analysis of traffic and road control (and related pollution), which helps public administrations make decisions on the development of the territory and the creation of more efficient communication routes.

Another application is related to investigations, when following an accident, the plate number is not known but the type of vehicle is known.

Recently, this function has also been used in different pricing (for parking or transit) based precisely on the type of vehicle.

Focusing on that aspect, prices can vary significantly depending on location, time of day or week, and type of vehicle. Selea cameras are able to recognize up to 35 different classes of vehicles, which allows parking operators to optimize parking slot management and maximize revenue.

Selea has developed cameras (probably the only ones on the market) that in addition to reading license plates are able to identify as many as 31 vehicle types, 9000 models, and 16 color classes, as well as nationality. This information broadens the scope of its application.
