Smart Parking: Going Green at Burwood Brickworks

Smart Parking at Burwood Brickworks

Smart Parking has been engaged by Burwood Brickworks to provide a car park counting and occupancy display system at their new super neighborhood retail development.

Touted as “the world’s most sustainable shopping center”, the new development will include over 30 specialty retail stores, a Woolworths supermarket, a Dan Murphy’s store, a 6-screen cinema, a child care center, a medical center, and an urban farm rooftop garden.

The car park will include around 300 individual bays, each of which will be monitored by a colored LED overhead indicator sensor. These sensors are an ideal car park management system as they provide instant availability of each separate bay, meaning motorists don’t need to drive up and down the aisles, wasting time and causing congestions and pollution.

As well, Smart Parking will be installing digital guidance signage in the form of cantilever and gantry signs. These afford motorists a view of the entire car park availability, meaning drivers can be siphoned off into areas with available parking spots before they enter a full car park.

Best of all, by using these two car park guidance methods Smart Parking aligns with Burwood Brickwork’s eco-commitment for their project. By reducing congestion and air pollution – as well as ensuring our product avoids using harmful red list materials – we can help fulfill the target of achieving a 6 Star Green Star Design and As-Built rating, as well as full certification under the Living Building Challenge (LBC) accreditation.

Excitingly, this project will be the first retail development in the world to achieve this internationally recognized certification.

Managers and operators at Burwood Brickworks will also enjoy the visibility and ability to mine data for information and parking trends thanks to our trailblazing SmartCloud platform. This is run using the Google Cloud Platform and means we can display accurate bay status on both the OHI and LED signage within seconds of a cars arrival as well as accruing that data to make reporting and analytics available at the touch of a button.

"We’re really excited to be involved in this project as Burwood Brickworks is a world-class example of a shared space environment that combines entertainment, retail, services, and parking in a location designed to be a true hub of the community.” - Ben Williams, Smart Parking LTD National Sales Manager.
