Smart Parking’s sensitive, professional and consistent approach to car park management at one of the UK’s largest train stations has enabled the site to control this key resource fairly and effectively at peak times for staff and visitors.
Environment
Milton Keynes Central Station is one of the UK’s largest train stations and has over 4.5 million entries and exits per year. With a daily average of 12,328 passengers, there’s constant pressure on the surrounding facilities.
Problems and Challenges Overcome
The operators of the station were fully aware of the pressures large volumes of traffic were placing on their car parks. They were in desperate need of a car park solution that would improve traffic flow, reduce queuing upon exit, and provide the data analysis they required.
Solutions Deployed
Smart Parking introduced state-of-the-art ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras to each of the sites, connected to industry-leading Pay and Display machines. Maximum stay and grace periods were also implemented in certain drop-off zones. Mobile patrol officers were deployed for additional support.

The huge increase in revenue from Pay and Display machines was a key indicator of the new system’s success. Finally, our data analysis showed that the car park was running far more efficiently.

Red Line Style Traffic Enforcement
Smart Parking’s highly trained mobile attendants enforce parking restrictions across all areas of interest. This includes, but is not limited to, red lines, blue badge bays and no-parking zones.
Engagement with Governing Bodies
Smart Parking is enforcement-capable and is a member of the BPA and the IPC. We are fully engaged with these entities and adhere to a strict code of practice in line with their guidelines.
