Urbiotica: Cluj-Napoca Installs 101 Sensors in Its Park & Ride to Guide Drivers to Free Parking Spaces

The Romanian city of Cluj-Napoca has taken a step forward in the digitalisation of urban mobility with the implementation of a smart guidance system for its Park & Ride facility. The objective is to provide drivers with a better user experience and to optimize the occupancy of the different areas of the car park through precise, real-time information.

The project, which represents the first collaboration between Fastpark and Urbiotica, has focused on equipping a total of 101 parking spaces with U-Spot 3.0 sensors, integrated into a LoRa connectivity system. The installation also includes 2 gateways that enable the efficient transmission of the data collected throughout the site.

Thanks to this infrastructure, drivers receive updated occupancy information through 4 digital information panels located at key access points to the car park. These panels show the real-time availability of the different specific areas: spaces reserved for people with reduced mobility (PRM), taxi areas, electric vehicles (EV), among others.

The choice of LoRa technology responds to Fastpark’s interest in solutions with low energy consumption and high reliability, which are especially suitable for large areas such as Park & Ride facilities. The use of U-Spot 3.0 sensors makes it possible to detect the presence or absence of vehicles in each space with precision, without the need for intensive maintenance or complex infrastructure.

This type of initiative demonstrates how the digitalisation of parking can bring immediate benefits: better distribution of vehicles, reduced time spent searching for a space, greater utilisation of the available capacity, and a smoother experience for users of intermodal transport.

Cluj-Napoca thus joins the growing list of cities that are choosing connected mobility as a key pillar for a more efficient and sustainable urban environment.
