Smart Cyprus Advances Large-Scale Smart Parking with 12,000 IoT Sensors and Urbiotica Technology
Cyprus has launched Smart Cyprus, an ambitious national initiative designed to transform urban mobility and public services through a shared, sustainable, and scalable digital infrastructure. Funded through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, the project represents a turning point in how the country approaches the digital transformation of its cities and communities.
The project is led by CYTA, the national telecommunications operator, selected as the primary entity responsible for the development and operation of the Smart Cyprus national platform. In the smart parking domain, MKKT, Urbiotica’s local partner in Cyprus, is responsible for implementing the solution on the ground, integrating the technology into the broader project ecosystem.
Parking as a Pillar of Smart Mobility
Among the first solutions deployed within Smart Cyprus, smart parking plays a strategic role. Efficient parking management is considered essential to reducing congestion, optimizing public space usage, and advancing more sustainable mobility models.
To achieve this, the project includes the deployment of more than 12,000 U-Spot singe-space detection sensors, making it one of the largest smart parking initiatives implemented in the country to date. This infrastructure will provide accurate, real-time data on parking occupancy across multiple municipalities throughout Cyprus.
Urbiotica Technology Integrated into a National Platform
Urbiotica’s smart parking solution, deployed through MKKT, is based on highly reliable single space IoT sensors designed to operate at scale and across diverse urban environments. The data collected by the sensors is integrated into the national Smart Cyprus platform, where it can be analyzed and leveraged to improve parking management and urban planning strategies.
This approach turns parking into a strategic data asset, enabling decision-making based on real-world information and aligned with the project’s sustainability and efficiency goals.
With this initiative, Cyprus moves forward toward a more connected and intelligent mobility model, while Urbiotica continues to strengthen its expertise in large-scale smart parking deployments integrated into national infrastructures.
