Company information

OPTEX is a global leader in sensing solutions. Founded in 1979, the company introduced the world's first infrared door sensor. Nearly five decades later, OPTEX has evolved into an innovative sensing technology company that develops and manufactures high-quality, reliable solutions for vehicle detection, door automation, security, industrial facilities, and a wide range of other applications.

The OPTEX Smart Mobility Solutions (SMS) division provides advanced vehicle detection solutions, designed to improve efficiency, safety, and user experience.

Gate & Barrier Automation
Whether for commercial parking facilities, industrial perimeter access, or residential gated driveways, OPTEX sensors offer a reliable above-ground alternative to traditional induction loops. By eliminating the need for costly and labor-intensive ground excavation, installation becomes faster and more flexible. In addition to barrier applications, OPTEX also provides sensing solutions for sliding and swing gates.

Vehicle Counting
OPTEX vehicle counting sensors accurately monitor traffic in single-lane applications. When integrated with parking management systems, they provide valuable operational insights while enhancing driver convenience through real-time information on parking availability and facility usage.

Parking Occupancy
OPTEX occupancy sensors detect the availability of parking spaces with high accuracy. The portfolio includes both individual space-monitoring solutions and fully integrated parking management systems, enabling operators to optimize parking utilization and improve the overall parking experience.

OPTEX’s highly reliable vehicle detection sensor installed at prestigious Wentworth Estate

OPTEX’ s vehicle sensor, installed by GT Perimeter Protection, is helping to accurately detect vehicles, whilst ignoring human traffic, at the private Wentworth Estate in Surrey.

Wentworth, home to the world-famous golf course is regarded as one of the UK’s most prestigious addresses. Over the years, Sir Elton John, Sir Bruce Forsyth, sport stars and international royalty have all called it home.

Above ground vehicle sensor solves induction loop detection issues at perimeter exit

The subsiding ground caused detection problems with the induction loop at a site exit. After installing our OPTEX OVS-02GT above-ground vehicle detection sensor, the exit is functioning properly again.

Van der Panne is a scaffolding company for large and small projects. At their location in Hendrik Ido Ambacht in the Netherlands, they store all their materials. Due to this there is a lot of traffic on the premises, from cars to heavy transport. When constructing the premises exit for Van der Panne, Geran Handel B.V. installed an automatic sliding gate and a barrier.

Avoid Collision Damage and Improve Safety

With at least 100 trucks passing through daily, the new barriers faced an issue: vehicles, particularly large trucks, frequently collided with them while they were in motion. The problem stemmed from inadequate protection, as only photobeams between the barrier operators were used for detection. This system did not effectively prevent vehicles from striking the barriers during closure, causing repeated damage, operational disruptions and it was a safety hazard.

Sicurtec S.r.l. proposed the OPTEX OVS-02GT sensorsSicurtec S.r.l. proposed the OPTEX OVS-02GT sensors to installer A&C Automazioni S.r.l., who installed two units at the entrance to enhance vehicle detection. Configured to detect only moving vehicles when barriers were active, the sensors ensured safe reopening to prevent collisions. With an 8-meter range, they provided sufficient clearance for trucks.

Post-installation, the new system significantly reduced damage to the barriers.Post-installation, the new system significantly reduced damage to the barriers. The barriers now automatically reopen when a vehicle is detected at a safe distance, preventing accidents. The installation was quick and required no soil cuts, ensuring minimal disruption.

GATE & BARRIER AUTOMATION SENSORS

OVS-02GT vehicle detection | Virtual Loop

OPTEX OVS-02GT vehicle detection sensor

The OPTEX Virtual Loop is the perfect vehicle detection solution for sites where ground loops are not possible or allowed, like damaged or unsealed surfaces, cobble stone roads or when drains or pipes are installed in the ground.

It is the ideal above ground sensing solution for automated barriers, sliding and swing gates and industrial doors. The sensor detects the presence of small to large vehicles within an 8 meter detection area and with a max. speed of 35 km/h, while ignoring human traffic.

The sensor is cost- and labor effective, as it is installed 500 mm above ground on a wall, pole, barrier housing or other suitable surface and with the installation app for mobiles.
