WPS Parking Solutions Awarded Contract for Truck Parking De Gouden Leeuw

All Systems Will Be Brought Together in One Integrated Solution, Providing Safety, Clear Oversight, and Efficient Management.

WPS Parking Solutions will carry out the modernization of Truck Parking De Gouden Leeuw. After a tender process lasting more than a year, De Gouden Leeuw — in collaboration with advisor Civil Support — selected WPS as the partner for this project.

In a competitive process involving two other market parties, the client ultimately placed its trust in WPS. This decision confirms our strength in delivering integrated parking and access solutions where safety, technology, and ease of use come together.

Five Generations of Hospitality

De Gouden Leeuw has existed since 1853 and has been run by the same family for five generations. Hospitality and quality have formed the foundation of the business for more than 170 years.

With sixteen hotel rooms, a restaurant and bar, and several multifunctional spaces, De Gouden Leeuw offers a trusted place for families, business guests, and drivers. The location is strategically situated near the A16 and A17 motorways, between Dordrecht and Breda, and close to the Haven Moerdijk industrial area.

Its spacious parking facilities, camera surveillance, and fueling options have already made the location popular among drivers. With the planned modernization, De Gouden Leeuw is now taking the next step: creating a fully safe and future-proof truck parking facility.

European Gold Safety Standard

The modernization is aimed at achieving the “Gold” classification within the European SSTPA standard (Safe and Secure Truck Parking Areas). The SSTPA standards were partly developed by ESPORG (European Secure Parking Organisation) and focus on establishing a network of safe and secure truck parking areas along key transport corridors. The standards are defined in regulations issued by the European Commission.

After certification by an independent certification body, De Gouden Leeuw is expected to become only the second truck parking facility in the Netherlands to achieve this classification.

For drivers, this means a demonstrably safe environment in which to spend their mandatory rest periods. Strict access control, site security, and extensive CCTV ensure continuous safety and monitoring.

Integrated Realization

The site will be fully enclosed and accessible only through secured entry points with speed gates.

WPS will act as one of the main contractors and will deliver:

  • The complete parking management system
  • Speed gates
  • Turnstiles
  • Barriers
  • Payment systems
  • CCTV system

All systems will be brought together in one integrated solution, providing safety, clear oversight, and efficient management.

At the same time, the strength of De Gouden Leeuw remains intact: the combination of safety and comfort. Drivers will have access to a restaurant, high-quality sanitary facilities, charging options, and additional services that contribute to wellbeing during rest periods.

Preparations for implementation will begin shortly. Delivery of the installation is scheduled for the third quarter of 2026. The location is expected to be fully operational by the summer of 2027.

With this project, De Gouden Leeuw strengthens its position within the European network of safe truck parking areas. For WPS, it represents another step in delivering high-quality and future-proof solutions for the transport sector.
