WPS & Q-Park Germany: Four Car Parks, One Future-Ready Parking Experience
Q-Park operates more than 200 parking facilities in Germany alone. That scale comes with high standards. Every parking management vendor has to prove itself on reliability, uptime, serviceability and usability.
About the project
If you make it in Germany, you make it anywhere
WPS is one of Q-Park's preferred suppliers. That means we work together in every Q-Park country where WPS has its own sales and service office. After the Netherlands, Belgium and the United Kingdom, Germany is the fourth member of this partnership, and these four car parks got the first WPS installations for Q-Park in Germany.
"If you make it in the German parking industry, you make it anywhere. That puts us in a place where we have fairly high demands on our PMS vendors."
Roman Rohrberg, Head of Marketing and Sales, Q-Park Germany
The challenge
The four sites may look modest in size, but each has a complex setup. Q-Park Germany was looking for a partner that could deliver on three fronts:
Clarity for occasional parkers. Most visitors park at a facility only once a month. Every step at the barrier and payment machine has to be instantly understandable.
Flexible on-site communication. In the past, every tariff change, event rate or temporary closure meant new physical posters had to be printed and put up. Q-Park wanted to update messages instantly.
Minimal disruption. Out of operation even for an hour means lost revenue for a car park. The switch from old to new equipment had to be fast.
A tailored solution, built together
WPS and Q-Park Germany went through a thorough selection process to define the best fit for each location. The result is a combination of hardware and software that works as one system.
ParkAdvance+ hardware at every site. Entry and exit terminals, barriers and pay-on-foot machines designed for a user-friendly experience and easy maintenance.
ParkID software. The central platform that connects all equipment, gives operators full control and supports integration with Q-Park's own systems.
Cash and cashless payment. Coins, cards, phones and watches. Essential in the German market, where cash remains important while digital payment grows fast.
ANPR cameras. License plate recognition supports Q-Park's ambition to go ticketless wherever possible.
Large digital displays at the entrance. Tariffs, special messages and level occupancy are shown to drivers before they enter. The displays are also capable of showing dynamic pricing in the future.
"The flexibility at the barrier and in communication is a very important part of what we are looking for in our vendors. WPS offered that to us."
Roman Rohrberg, Head of Marketing and Sales, Q-Park Germany
Fast, smooth installation
Replacing a complete parking system is a major operation. At each site, WPS completed the full changeover, from dismantling the old hardware to testing and fine-tuning the new system, in roughly one week. More importantly, the car parks were operational and generating revenue again within the first day. Short lines of communication and quick responses from WPS kept the project on track throughout.
"The installation was really smooth and fast. Now we are operating the sites and the main feedback is: it's going really well. We are already waiting for the next site we can do together."
Andreas Ober, Manager Technical Operations, Q-Park Germany
The results
- Four car parks fully equipped with ParkAdvance+ and ParkID
- Complete changeover in around one week per site, with revenue flowing again within the first day
- Instant tariff and message updates via digital displays, no more printed posters
- Higher operational security through less cash on site
- Cash and cashless payment for every type of parker
Looking ahead
For Q-Park Germany, digitalizing the entire parking process is the next step. Ticketless parking, deeper integrations and dynamic pricing are all on the roadmap. With an open and adaptive platform in place, these four car parks are ready for what comes next.
"We have seen these qualities with WPS, and we look forward to a great collaboration in the future."
Roman Rohrberg, Head of Marketing and Sales, Q-Park Germany
