WPS: Parking in Cities Comes With Unique Challenges
From reducing cars in the streets to managing multiple facilities efficiently or moving toward full digitalisation — municipalities face complex demands every day.
At WPS, we support local governments with reliable, future-ready parking solutions. Our systems are easy to integrate with third-party apps, provide powerful reporting, and are backed by decades of experience.
A great example is the Municipality of Zwolle, where WPS upgraded all city-owned facilities with our ParkID system. The result? Centralised control, efficient management, and smooth parking for residents and visitors alike.
City of Zwolle
Zwolle Local Council and WPS Parking Solutions have been working together successfully for many years on parking management.
As part of their partnership, WPS has fitted all municipal parking facilities in Zwolle with a new ParkID parking management system in recent years. This includes the Emmawijk, Lübeckplein, Katwolderplein, Diezerpoort, Noordereiland and Pas-de-Deux parking garages and the Hanzeland, Burgemeester van Roijensingel, Provinciehuis Overijssel parking sites and the Whijtmenerplas recreational area.
About the project
The challenge:
Zwolle Local Council is responsible for its own parking management and first-line maintenance. All locations are managed remotely, which the Council aims to do as efficiently as possible. Reliable equipment and a set of clear rules for maintenance are essential, as are sustainable, high-quality, and future-proof parking solutions.
The solution:
All parking facilities are equipped with our state-of-the-art ParkID parking management system and ParkAdvance parking equipment, including entry and exit terminals, license plate recognition (LPR), WPS-229, barriers, subscription terminals, cashless and full-service payment terminals, the Commend GE300 intercom system, and a Central Management Station in the control box. The Lübeckplein garage is equipped with a state-of-the-art control room to operate its parking management, CCTV, and intercom systems.
The result:
The multi-car park setup enables the City of Zwolle to manage all parking facilities efficiently and from one central location. We have also provided training to ensure that people are proficient enough in using the hardware and software to be able to conduct first-line maintenance.
Residents and visitors also benefit from the new parking solutions. Drivers enter and exit the parking facilities located in the city center based on a barcode, MIFARE® subscription card, or license plate recognition technology. Parking customers who want to use their cell phone to park and pay can also enter and exit the facility using their own subscription with providers such as ParkMobile and Yellowbrick. In order to provide the public with the best possible services, they decided to equip the payment terminals with payment options including coins, bills, ATM cards, credit cards, and contactless payments based on near-field communication (NFC) technology.
