WPS: Smarter Parking at Flanders Expo in Ghent

Flanders Expo in Ghent, one of Belgium’s largest event locations, has taken an important step toward the future of parking. With its eight exhibition halls, multiple outdoor parking areas, and thousands of visitors each year, the venue required a solution that could handle high volumes, offer flexibility, and integrate seamlessly with its own systems.

A complex project, completed with WPS

The new parking system covers a total of 20 different entry and exit points, including inner carparks. Some of these are connected through 4G, ensuring reliability even where traditional cabling is less feasible. To accommodate different vehicle types, double height terminals barriers were installed, making access easier for trucks and larger vehicles.

Visitors and exhibitors can now benefit from five payment kiosks, ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) for smooth access and exit, and WPS Pay for easy transactions. In addition, an API integration is being developed that will allow exhibitors and guests to book their parking directly through the Flanders Expo website, making parking reservations part of the overall event experience.

From challenge to implementation

The project was not without its hurdles. The sales and implementation process took longer than usual due to the complexity of the site and the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic. Ultimately, Flanders Expo opted for WPS because of its service-oriented approach and the ability to provide a simple yet powerful API connection.

A proven partnership

This is not the first collaboration between WPS and the Easyfairs group, which operates Flanders Expo. Three years ago, Antwerp Expo’s parking facilities were also equipped with WPS technology, ensuring consistency and reliability across locations.
